Recruiting Division

Recruiting Division, Thor TechnologiesWelcome to the Recruiting Division of Thor Technologies!  If you are here, we hope that it's because you are interested in joining.  Before you get into something you may not be ready for, please read the following paragraphs.  If you have any questions, please contact [email protected] or [email protected].  Thank you for your interest.

Thor Technologies is all about, as you may know already, technology.  This means that all our members have somewhat decent knowledge of their areas. When joining, we ask that you know the basics of a computer i.e. how to start it up, start programs, know the type of computer you are using, and what kind of software your computer uses.  Also, if you are going directly into Thor (skipping over the mentor system) then we ask that you are skilled in the area of expertise you would like to be helping with.  This means that if you want to be a HTML writer, you have experience writing and publishing your work on the net.  Second, we ask that we be allowed to see what some small work you have done with your expertise. We realize there are difficulties in doing this.  Please be patient with us.

There are a few rules the Senate has passed for convenience for the members.  Following these rules is an important part of Thor.  Failure to follow any one of these rules is reason for a Court to be called on your behalf.  Court is held the way that the U.S. Judicial system should work.  The rules are as follows:

  1. Harrasment of members will not be tolerated.  The Senate has severe punishments for this type of activity.  Expulsion from Thor will be mandatory for       the slightest harassing comments.  Anything threatening in any way whether jokingly or not is harrassment.
  2. Use of Warez.  Warez is illegal.  The FBI is gradually cracking down on Warez use.  "Hacking" and credit card fraud are among only a few of the               activities that fall under this category.  Now you may have seen some of our members' expertise are in hacking.  This is not that type of hacking.  These     members "gut" a program.  Some of the members, Hiro included, have done some illegal hacking in the past, but Warez and Thor will not be                     incorporated.
  3. Spying.  This rule, in most of our opinions, is idiotic.  But there are people who will take ideas such as Thor apps, and create their own type.  This is very     rare and shouldn't ever happen, but the Senate feels that it needs to be clear that if you are interested in helping out, then help.  Please don't steal others     work and take credit for it.

Thor Technologies has many different areas in which you can sign up.  If you know of anything we have forgotten, mail [email protected].  Find the area that you are the best at.  Then we will build on that and help you progress in that area and also other areas.  Remember what area you will work in when you sign up in the next step.

HTML

This is one of the hardest but most popular areas.  It requires knowledge of the Internet.  HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language.  HTML is the language in which all web sites are written.  Web site design is also a very important part of this area.  Knowledge on how to publish the sites are also a need.  If you think this may be something you'd like to learn, go to www.htmlgoodies.com for more information.

Programming

This area could actually be split into different areas.  There are a ton of different languages to program in.  This is one of the most important areas of Thor Technologies.  It is basically software development.  This is a most needed position to fill as now Project Ferret is in the making.  If you can program in BASIC, C, C++, Java, Pascal, or any other language, please consider joining.

Design

An interesting interface is very important to web sites, applications, etc.  If you wish to fill this position, you must have a good sense of style.  Color, pattern, among other things is what determines style.  What you design must catch one's eye.

Hardware

This is an IBM-only thing.  Since Apple didn't sell their patent, we cannot toy with their hardware.  In order to sign-up here, you must be able to install and uninstall hardware and know how the circuitry works.  One way to figure out whether or not you can do this, break a circuit board in half and if you can fix it, this is area.  You also must know the software for Sound Blaster sound cards, and install video drivers.

IBM Support

This is also a very vast area.  IBM has a lot of software available.  Knowledge of MS-DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and/or Windows 98 is a must. Helping people with their problems is basically what you will be doing most of the time.  It would be nice if you knew the ins and outs of software and maybe knew a little programming, but that is optional.

MAC Support

MAC Support is a small area, but a much needed one.  MACs are almost completely user interface, and there are no insides.  There is a lot of software for MACs, but most of the questions asked are for MacAmp, Stuffit, and a few graphics programs. If you have a lot of solutions to offer, this may be the area of expertise for you.

Graphic Art

Graphics are a much needed area for the HTML, Programming, and design.  3D graphics, icons, animations and logos are needed.  We will need a sample of your work.  If we like it, we will put you to work with the rest of the artists.  This a big demand area.  Please join if you are at all interested.

The Mentor System.  If you haven't a clue about anything inside a computer, the Senate has approved a Mentor System.  If you are interested in the System, pick an area is which you would like to learn.  We will assign you someone in that area to teach you.  He/She will teach you the basics to your area, and then you have a choice on whether or not to continue with Thor.  If you stay with us, you will keep learning.  That is one of the main goal of Thor.  We learn from eachother and teach eachother new tricks and tips.  If you choose not to stay with us, we will go our seperate ways.  Recruiting will never bother you.
